What happened to Omegle?
Omegle, the random chat site launched in 2009, closed for good in November 2023. Here's a short, factual summary and what to look for if you still want to meet strangers online.

The short story
Omegle was started in 2009 by Leif K-Brooks and paired random strangers for text and, later, video chats. It became one of the best-known chat sites of the 2010s.
On 8 November 2023 the site was replaced by a statement from its founder saying that operating it was no longer sustainable, financially or psychologically, citing the cost of fighting misuse and legal pressure. The service has not returned.
What to look for in a replacement: a real adults-only age check, one-tap block and report that actually prevents re-matching, no recording of calls, clear community rules, and honest information about how many people are online.
OMG Chat is one option: free, adults-only (18+), guest mode, interest matching, voice-only and auto-translated chat. It's a small, growing community, busiest every night 21:00–22:00 CET. It is not affiliated with Omegle. See also all alternatives.
Features
Interest tags
Pick up to 5 interests (gaming, music, travel, anime…). We try people who share them first, then anyone after a few seconds.
Voice-only mode
Not in the mood for camera? Turn video off and talk with voice only; voice-only users are matched with each other first.
Text chat with auto-translate
Type during the call. Messages are translated into your language automatically, so you can talk to people anywhere.
Block & report in one tap
Tap the shield to block or report. Blocked people can never be matched with you again, call you or message you.
Camera switching
Flip between front and back cameras, or choose any connected webcam on desktop.
Free to use
Random video chat is free, with no sign-up needed (guest mode). Optional Premium adds match filters and removes ads.
